A structured process to ensure accurate gradings

Our gradings follow a rigorous process with expert oversight throughout, so the most important factors are always considered, giving peace of mind to everyone who relies on them.

  1. Contact with the graded entity

    • 1.1 The business applies on this site, or SMEDAN's grading team contacts it, to start the grading process.
    • 1.2 The business supplies the initial information the grading needs through the secure application form.

  2. Meeting with the graded entity

    • 2.1 The grading analyst meets the business, preferably in person or virtually, having told it beforehand what information to prepare.
    • 2.2 The business signs the grading contract online, and the analysts capture its data into the grading tool. Further information may be requested.

  3. Grading begins

    • 3.1 An initial grading report is prepared from the captured data and shared with the grading committee.
    • 3.2 The grading committee convenes if there are any rejections to the grading.

  4. Presentation of the grading to the business

    • 4.1 The business can accept the grading, and it moves to publication.
    • 4.2 The grading can be appealed. The appeal is sent back to the grading committee to address the business's concerns.

  5. Publication & review

    • 5.1 Once accepted, the grading is stored securely and published on this portal, where anyone can verify it. The full report is released only with the business's access code.
    • 5.2 The grading is reviewed after 12 months. Graded businesses are monitored on an ongoing basis, including updates to financial data, operational performance and market conditions.
